Biography Project-
We are now working on our Biography Projects.  Students should have the person they would like to study approved early this week.  Students will be assigned a day during the last two weeks of school to present.

Here are the requirements for this project:

Biography Project
7th Grade Language Arts Class

You will research a person who changed the world (for the better).  You will use at least 3 credible sources in your research. Take notes on the person you choose.  Include information about the following:
a.    Family
b.    Hometown
c.    Date of birth (and death, if applicable)
d.    Personality and character traits
e.    Important accomplishments
f.     Goals
g.    Obstacles
h.    Major events in the person’s life
i.     Contributions to society
With the information, you find you will complete two activities.

Who’s Cell Phone Is This?
Complete the three steps to show what would be on this person’s phone. (Use accompanying paper)

a.    Wallpaper – Sketch the person’s cell phone wallpaper with colored pencils. Then, explain why this image choice would appeal to this person.
b.    Email – This person just received two messages. Thinking back over the reading, explain which other people just sent messages to this person and what is the content of each message.
c.    Play list – Write three song titles with artists’ names that would likely be on this person’s play list. Be sure to explain your reasoning as to why these three songs would appeal to him/her.
Monologue
1.    Write a one-page monologue that you will present to the class. Write as if you are the person talking about himself or herself—for example. “I was born in 1877.” Incorporate the information from your notes.
2.    Read your monologue aloud and then revise it.  Time yourself presenting your speech and make sure it takes 3-5 min. Revise as necessary.  Write or type your final draft neatly on index cards.  You will turn in your index cards, so write your name and heading on the first one and attach them together for turning in.
3.    Practice your speech so that you do not need to read from the index cards.  (You may refer to them, but you should be able to make eye contact for most of your presentation.)  Practice speaking and acting as you imagine the person would have.
4.    Find out what the person looked like and how he or she dressed.  On the day of your presentation, you will dress in a costume to look like the person. There should be items in your outfit that are distinctive to that person—for example, you may wear your own church suit for Abraham Lincoln but you should definitely have his distinctive top hat.
5.    You will present your monologue during the final 2 weeks of the school year.
